The Invisible Line
- News
In 2025, we are celebrating PNG’s 50th Anniversary of Independence with several cultural activities. We are collaborating with Cairns Regional Council’s Mulgrave Gallery to bring together PNG and Australian artists for a special exhibition celebrating the deep ties between our people.
‘The Invisible Line: Stories, Legends and Connections’ will open in Cairns in September 2025.
Four PNG-based artists and four Australia-based artists are meeting this week in Port Moresby for a series of workshops and art camps in preparation for the exhibition.
This exhibition will highlight the ancestral and continued connections between PNG and Australia through art and stories. These stories celebrate Australian First Nation and PNG cultures as well as contemporary expression and PNG diaspora voices in Australia.
The multi-disciplinary artists include Leonard Tebegetu (metal work), Gazellah Bruder (printmaking, painting and metal work), Pax Jukapa (painting), Morgan Lavapo (painting), Jimmy K Thaiday (ghost fishing net, painting, print/etching), Charlie Street (painting and graphics), Wendy Mocke (multimedia, acting, writing), Bernadette Killin (visual artists and educator). Lesley Wengembo from PNG and Sally Brown from Cairns are curating the exhibition.
